Exactly 30 years ago, US President Bill Clinton and Russian President Boris Yeltsin forced Ukraine to give up the world’s third-largest nuclear arsenal. Under immense pressure from Washington and Moscow, Kyiv was coerced into destroying or handing over its strategic ballistic missiles with nuclear warheads and strategic bombers to Russia.

Despite this, America and Europe still seem mired in lethargy, ready to yield to the brazen regimes of the oppressive „axis of evil.” This is a suicidal policy that threatens not only the stability of the region but also the foundations of the free world.

Russian aggression against Ukraine has fundamentally altered the global security architecture. The world order has been completely dismantled. The Yalta-Potsdam system and international law established after World War II lie in ruins. Decades of relatively peaceful coexistence among countries and nations belong to the past. Moscow’s brutal occupation of a sovereign nation’s territory has clearly demonstrated that, instead of the rule of law prevailing in the world, the law of force has taken hold. An era of wars and conflicts has begun. Those who still believe that everything will remain as it was must shed their illusions. The world will never be the same again.

Putin must permanently abandon his delusions of a „New Yalta.” Kyiv will never agree to be used as a bargaining chip in Russia’s negotiations with the West over a new division of the world into spheres of influence. Ukraine has the potential to become a force capable of defending Central and Eastern European countries from Russia’s imperial ambitions.

In the face of Putin’s aggressive expansion, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump repeats the manipulative phrase of Russian propaganda like a mantra, claiming that Russia is supposedly invincible because it once defeated Hitler and Napoleon. Furthermore, during a debate with Kamala Harris, Trump did not answer directly when asked if he cared about Ukraine’s victory. Instead, he stated that his priority is to end the war and added that Russia possesses a massive nuclear arsenal.

The leader of the terrorist aggressor state and war criminal, Vladimir Putin, has been regularly blackmailing the world with the threat of nuclear weapons for the past decade. Unfortunately, the indecisive and cowardly reaction of the West only encourages the Kremlin maniac to continue using this tool. The West’s hesitation and fear of Putin’s nuclear blackmail are making nuclear war increasingly likely.

Western policies of concessions and „not provoking” Russia have backfired—further emboldening Putin! The more the West concedes to the Kremlin, the more aggressively Russia pursues its policies against its neighbors.

For 25 years, Moscow has been waging a covert hybrid war against its neighbors. The conflicts in Nagorno-Karabakh, Transnistria, Abkhazia, North Ossetia, and Donbas are the result of this creeping hybrid warfare. Azerbaijan, Moldova, Georgia, and Ukraine have already fallen victim to Russian aggression.
