Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Reminds Trump of Humiliating Ultimatum to the U.S. How Will the 47th President Respond?

At the end of 2021, using the threat of war, Putin made brazen demands to NATO and the United States, calling for the restoration of Moscow’s Stalinist sphere of influence in Europe, akin to the one it held from 1945 to 1989. On the Kremlin’s orders, just before launching the invasion of Ukraine, Russian diplomats demanded that Washington and NATO cease the expansion of the Alliance, deny Ukraine the right to Euro-Atlantic aspirations, and revert NATO’s borders to the status quo of 1997. “NATO should 'pack up’ and retreat to pre-1997 borders,” declared Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov with audacious bluntness, just before the U.S.-Russia talks in Geneva on January 10, 2022. In other words, Moscow demanded that all of Central and Eastern Europe and the former Warsaw Pact states be left at Russia’s mercy.

When it became clear that Donald Trump had won the presidential election, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement full of insolence and humiliation directed at the newly elected U.S. leader. The statement read:

„The political elite governing the United States, regardless of party affiliation, maintains an anti-Russian stance and a policy of 'containing Moscow.’ This stance does not change with domestic political moods in the U.S.—whether it’s 'America First’ in Trump’s interpretation and that of his supporters, or 'a rules-based world order,’ so close to the Democrats.”

In this way, Putin’s diplomats clearly emphasized that Moscow does not accept the policy of containing Russian aggression and expansion in Central and Eastern Europe, a policy pursued by the United States and its NATO allies.

Moreover, Putin’s diplomats shamelessly and without ceremony reminded Trump of the ultimatum demands that the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs had directed to the administration of U.S. President Joe Biden.

„Russia will cooperate with the new administration once it 'registers’ at the White House, firmly defending Russian national interests and focusing on achieving all the goals of the special military operation. Our conditions remain unchanged and are well known in Washington,” the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ arrogant statement read.

Thus, Putin made it clear that he expects Trump to fulfill these humiliating demands.

The so-called „peace plan,” which involves territorial concessions and the refusal to admit Ukraine to NATO, presented by the new Vice President J.D. Vance, is interpreted in Moscow as a sign of the new U.S. administration’s willingness to partially capitulate to Kremlin demands. However, Russian diplomacy does not stop there, arrogantly demanding full capitulation from Trump, meaning the fulfillment of all the conditions set out in the ultimatum directed at Washington in December 2021.

How will the Trump administration respond to this astonishing rudeness from Putin’s diplomats? Any concessions in meeting the arrogant demands of the aggressor nation will be perceived worldwide as weakness and indecisiveness from Donald Trump and the United States. Such traits could undermine leadership and authority, not only among American allies but also on the global stage.

Limiting military assistance, weapons, and ammunition to Ukraine, territorial concessions, refusing to admit Ukraine to NATO, and leaving Kyiv to its fate after three years of heroic Ukrainian resistance will be seen worldwide as weakness from Trump and a humiliating defeat for the United States.

Such a policy would significantly weaken Washington’s influence globally and ultimately cause enormous damage to U.S. national interests.

The naive hopes of some American strategists, who unjustifiably believe they can repeat Henry Kissinger’s trick and destroy the Russia-China alliance by sacrificing Ukraine and relinquishing their influence in Central and Eastern Europe, are doomed to failure. Even if Russia engages in such diplomacy with the Americans, it will never become an adversary of China. Moscow fears Beijing like fire, while the Kremlin treats democratic America and the West with contempt. Furthermore, the values of the Euro-Atlantic civilization (both liberal and conservative) are absolutely alien to Russians, who exploit them only in a manipulative and instrumental sense. The belief that Russia can be detached from China is groundless and bound to fail.

The „Axis of Evil” – Russia, China, Iran, North Korea – closely observes the conflict in Ukraine and Washington’s determination to defend its interests in Central and Eastern Europe. If the Trump administration makes even the slightest concessions to Ukraine, the pack of hungry jackals attacking the weakening American lion will begin to push Americans and their allies out of the Indo-Pacific region, the Middle East, and Africa. This could destabilize the world entirely and bring an end to American leadership on the planet.
